Hoppe vs Schaefer (18.2 balk-line)

Willie Hoppe, 18-2 balk-line billiard champion, defeated Jake Schaefer, former champion in a 1,500-point match played in three blocks March 12, 13 and 14, 1923, in New York city. Schaefer won the first game 500 to 277 in twelve innings; Hoppe took the second with a score of 723 to 494 in twenty-one innings and the third with a score of 500 to 347 in twelve innings. Schaefer vs Conti (18-2)

In a series of three balk-line billiard games, played in Chicago, Jan 8, 9 and 10. 1923. Jake Schaefer defeated Roger Conti, the French Champion, by a total score of 1500 to 781.


Three Cushion Billiards, National Professional Championship

Tiff Denton of Kansas City won the 1923 national professional championship of the National Championship Three-Cushion Billiard league at Philadelphia, PA. Sept. 29. His opponents in the series, which began in St. Louis, were Arthur Reiselt, Philadelphia; John Layton, St. Louis, and Robert Cannefax of New York. The final standing was: Denton 8/4; Reiselt 7/5; Layton 7/5; Cannefax 2/10.


National Amateur Championship

Robert M. Lord of the Illinois Athletic Club, Chicago, won the national amateur three-cushion billiard championship of the United States in a tournament held in Brooklyn, N.Y., and ending March 31, 1923. In the last game of the final round, he defeated Allen V. Ryan of the Amateur Billiard Club of New York city by a score of 50 to 41 in eighty-five innings. The standing of of the players in the final round was: R.M. Lord 3/0; A.V. Ryan 2/1; Charles Hanf 0/2; H.L. Turk 0/2.

Illinois Three-Cushion Championship

Walter A. Schwietzka of Champaign won the Illinois Three-Cushion billiard championship in the final game of the tournament held in Champaign and ending Feb. 20. 1923, by defeating F.G. Fitzpatrick of Chicago 50 to 30 in seventy-three innings. Arthur Peterson of Rockford was second. W.R. Collier of Chicago third and Fitzpatrick fourth. Champions since 1920:

In a three-night challenge match Arthur Peterson of Rockford defeated Schwietzka at Champaign, July 25, with 150 to 139 points in a total of 231 innings.


Layton vs Kieckhefer

John Layton defeated Augie Kieckhefer in a 720-point three-cushion billiard match played in twelve blocks and ending April 7, 1923, in St. Louis, MO. Kieckhefer's total score was 658. The entire match required 769 innings.


National Amateur 18-2 Balk-Line Championship.

Percy N. Collins of the Illinois Athletic Club won the national amateur 18-2 balk-line billiard championship in a tournament held in New York City, ending March 8, 1923. The Final Standing of the contestants was:

Dr. Richard Roscow of Baltimore, MD. won the national class B 18-2 balk-line billiard championship tournament played in New York city and ending February 19, 1923. He tied with C.P. Matthews of Brooklyn but won in the playoff. Final standing:
