1970 World 3 Cushion Championship

Las Vegas, Nevada- 1970

This great event featured Raymond Ceulemans who at the time was somewhat unknown in the U.S. Not long after this event was his name circulating in the billiard room because of a grand average of 1.165 for the event. He was the only player to average over 1.0 in the event with Kobayashi of Japan who took second place averaging .998. At the time, averaging 1.0 in an entire event was virtually unheard of in the U.S. Some of the best American players of the time, Gilbert and Robin, represented the U.S. and averaged .698 and .719 respectively. Eddie Robin is best known for his books covering Position Play in 3 Cushion Billiards , and two books on the pocket billiard discipline of one pocket. Below the chart are the final standings with averages and high runs, as well as a picture of a hand written bracket sheet and a picture of Ceulemans at the event. I am in the process of adding more pictures from this event. If you have any pictures you would like to have added, or a personal story from the event, please contact me.

Read the chart from left to right. There are three boxes for each players' score for every game. In the top box is the number of points scored in the game. Matches were 60 points and winning scores are highlighted. In the bottom left box is the number of innings, and on the right is the player's high run. Points scored in red indicate the number of points made by that player in a lost game.
