1966-LIma, Peru World Tournament
Probably the most interesting thing about this tournament from an historical perspective is the unbelievable average that Raymond Ceulemans delivered. Equipment in South America during this time was not to the same standard as Europeans were used to competing on. This tournament was in a way part of the Raymond Ceulemans "World Tour" as some people called his making the rounds in the 1960s to establish himself as the heir to the billiard crown. Even on the best tables, with the cleanest billiard balls, a grand average of 1.345 was virtually unheard of at the time. Maybe as impressive is the fact that the field grand average was near the 1.0 mark, which is still a distinction of world class play. I have no pictures or stories from this event and would love to add more data. If you have anything you would like to contribute, please scan it if an image and type it if a story, and email me.
